September – the season so far.

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Right now the fish are here and the very few boats going out are getting action.   15 years ago September was the best part of the season with incredible catches.  Looks like it might be happening again.  For me, it will be Wahoo fishing and a late Marlin as a bonus.  Katherine has gone back to school after a long had year with wonderful results.  I am looking forward to her first Wahoo at half term.

A wonderful season and looking forward to some Great Wahoo fishing.

OCTOBER 8th and BETTER again

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

The Captain with the days catch of 6 out of 11 hookups. All the strikes were multiples and up to four at a time. It gets hectic with two anglers on 20 lb gear and trying to handle four fish at a time. img_4496

Katherine in the air on a 600 Blue

Katherine in the air on a 600 Blue

WAY TO GO Katherine. Even as small as she is at 15, with the correct adjustment to the chair it is a piece of cake for any agile junior angler. To make things even easier to get that rod to the chair I made an addition of the butt handles from Roddy Hayes. Running around the cockpit with one of those outfits is not easy at best of times but the handles seen in the pic made it so much easier.

KATHERINE’S DREAM COMES TRUE

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Ever since getting her first taste of marlin fishing last year my daughter Katherine has had the dream of catching her first marlin and maybe a world record. Today her dream came true but she decided to tag and release the fish. It was so beautiful, she said. The estimated 600 would have broken the record. She said to me later, ‘ Dad I dont want to break the record, I want to smash it’. One good reason to let a 600 go. It was the Best Days fishing in my life. BTW. we were one for three. the other two were beasts. Yesterday Wayne Whippin was 4 for 6. The bite is on in Madeira. I think every boat was flying a marlin release flag. This is like the old days; the bite will continue right into September and maybe get better. and also BTW. Katherine has just turned 15 and was fishing on 80. She wants another shot at it next year. “Please Dad” —- How could I refuse ? So far she has spent a total of two and a half days marlin fishing. Lucky !!!! img_4009_2
