Late August – Nick Peat – Late Bite ??

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

After a quiet spell angler Nick Peat turned up and nailed one out of two fish for his first attempt at Marlin Fishing.  He only fished two days but had all the fun he was looking for.

Chris Parkin hooks up right outside of Funchal.

Chris Parkin hooked up right outside town with his family watching from the balcony.

Chris is becoming a veteran angler in Madeira.  Here he is hooked up right outside of town and that was the strike below.  His wife and family were in their hotel when son John said Hey Mum that boat out there is going backwards.  She looked out and recognised the “Katherine B”.  Well thats your Dad you are watching there !!   The fight went on and crewman Norberto got the leader.  I tagged the fish and put the snooter on.  That was it; the fish went ballistic.  Norb got a whack in the face almost knocked his eye out.  Most times these Blues are pussycats at the boat and give up for a quiet release with a minimum of fuss.  Not this one.  I had to cut the thing loose immediately before any further mayhem.

July – It doesn’t take long.

End of MAY – first bite a double header.

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

An awesome strike but completely missed the hook -- it happens. Thats the tail of the fish you can see there.

Late May we got two bites right out of the gate.   It was a double header but pulled both hooks.  Sometimes you get lucky but not today.

This gave us a good taste of what was to come.
